Understanding Endometriosis

Endometriosis is a persistent condition where tissue similar to the endometrial lining of the uterus is discovered outside of the uterus. This tissue typically results in menstrual bleeding and is frequently associated with unusually painful and heavy periods, pelvic pain, pelvic adhesions, uterine anomalies, severe cramping, and painful sexual intercourse (dyspareunia). The growth of these lesions is estrogen-dependent, noncancerous, inflammatory, driven by stem cells, and can sometimes worsen over time.

This condition is estimated to affect approximately 176 million women across the globe and is a primary contributor to infertility and persistent pelvic pain. Endometriosis has also been associated with several other medical issues, such as autoimmune disorders, infertility, adenomyosis, levator ani syndrome, interstitial cystitis, and even some cancers. In the United States, endometriosis is one of the leading causes of laparoscopic surgery and hysterectomy. The economic impact of this condition is profound, with businesses experiencing billions of dollars in lost productivity and absenteeism due to the disease.

In general, the goal of surgery for endometriosis is to remove the affected tissue while preserving healthy tissue and organs as much as possible.

Dr. Singhal has truly changed my life. I had previous endometriosis surgery costing 15k by one of the well known providers out there in NYC which was a 6 hour drive for me to only require surgery again 2 years later.

Dr. Singhal is excellent and knowledgeable from his excision abilities and understanding of the disease, to his surgical skills, to his patient care. I am 6 weeks out from surgery and he still will check in on me and answer any and all questions that I have. He is also working with my local gyn to continue my care.

I am so beyond grateful to have found him.

I’ve been suffering with these symptoms for many years since I was in high school, when I first got my period. Now, two weeks post-surgery, I feel so much better. I feel a huge relief off my shoulders to know that my pain was real and this was all real and for a reason. I’m super excited to move on with my life knowing that I now have a diagnosis and a treatment plan, and they were both amazing.

Everybody in the hospital during my surgery was amazing. They kept me calm, they kept me happy, and they were very thorough and wonderful. I’m very excited to have them as my doctors now to continue staying healthy, and I thank them so much. I highly recommend them.
